Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) and Village Defence Committees (VDCs), would conduct a one-week anti-drug operation in Fazilka district. They will contact locals in up to 42 villages along the India-Pakistan border to acquire actionable intelligence on narcotics demand and supply.

About Mission Nishchay

During the 'Mission Nishchay' initiative, police officers will visit villages in the Fazilka area from June 15 to 21 and meet with communities. The goal is to instill a sense of communal engagement among the residents of border communities while we work to combat the drug problem. The emphasis is on gathering actionable intelligence regarding drug demand and supply among young people and women.Fazilka district accounts for 108 kilometers of Punjab's 553-kilometer border with Pakistan.

Why is Fazilka District being targeted?

Last month, Fazilka police detained seven people, including two brothers, and recovered around 5.5 kilograms of heroin being trafficked into India from across the border, six mobile phones, and Rs 1.07 lakh in drug money. They also impounded a vehicle and three motorbikes. Six of the seven detainees were students, while five met at the Jalalabad Sports Stadium to arrange for army enlistment. During their contact and preparations, they decided to smuggle heroin from Pakistan.
